Container drayage in Toronto and the GTA

Jaden Express moves shipping containers between the GTA's rail terminals and ports and your dock. Imports come in loaded and the empty goes back. Exports go out sealed and on time for the cut-off. Drayage, container trucking, container haulage: it's the same truck trip, and it's most of what we do.

We pull from CN Brampton and CPKC Vaughan every working day and deliver across Toronto, Peel, York, Halton and Durham, with longer runs into Southern Ontario on request. If your dock isn't ready, the container comes to our Bolton yard instead of sitting at the terminal and running up storage.

IMPORT & EXPORT

What each drayage move includes

Import drayage

  • Release, customs status and last free day checked before a truck is booked
  • Terminal appointment and pickup at CN Brampton, CPKC Vaughan [or other terminal]
  • Chassis matched to the cargo weight
  • Delivery your way: live unload, drop and pick, grounded, held in our yard, or transloaded
  • Empty returned to the line's depot inside free time, with the gate receipt

Export drayage

  • Booking number, empty release and cut-off confirmed with the shipping line
  • Empty picked up at the depot, checked for damage, and brought to your dock
  • Live load while the driver waits, or the empty dropped so you can load over a few days
  • Seal number recorded and photographed
  • Loaded container delivered to the rail terminal or port before the cut-off, with the in-gate receipt

STEP BY STEP

How a drayage move runs

  1. 1

    You send the details

Import: container number, terminal, release status, delivery address and receiving hours. Export: booking number, line, empty depot, cut-off and loading address.

  2. 2

    We check before we commit

Holds, overweight cargo, dangerous goods and free-time problems get flagged now, not at the gate. You get a price and a pull date.

  3. 3

    We pull and deliver

The driver checks the container number, seal and doors at the terminal, then delivers the box the way you chose.

  4. 4

    Empty back, paperwork done

Gate receipts, signed proof of delivery and photos go to you the same day. The invoice matches the quote.

DELIVERY OPTIONS

Five ways to take delivery of a container

Live unload

The truck backs onto your dock and waits while you unload (free window [2 hours]). The empty leaves in the same trip. Cheapest when your dock is ready.

Drop and pick

We leave the container on a chassis at your site. You unload on your schedule and we come back for the empty. You pay chassis days, not waiting time.

Grounded

No dock? We set the container on the ground so you can work at floor level with a forklift. [confirm Jaden can ground at customer sites]

Held in our yard

We pull it before free time ends and store it in Bolton by the day. Cheaper than terminal storage plus per diem in most cases.

Transloaded

Unloaded at our facility, palletized, and delivered by trailer or straight truck when you want it, to one address or several.

EQUIPMENT

The right chassis for the weight

Container hauling is an equipment job. A heavy 20-footer on the wrong chassis isn't legal on Ontario roads. We match tandem or tri-axle chassis to the cargo weight before the container is released.

  • 20', 40', 40' high cube and 45' containers
  • Tandem and [tri-axle] chassis for heavy loads
  • [Dangerous goods: confirm whether Jaden moves TDG placarded containers]
  • [Flat racks and open tops: confirm]

FAQ

Container drayage questions

Is container trucking the same as drayage?

Yes. Drayage, container trucking, container cartage and intermodal trucking all describe the same short truck move between a rail terminal or port and a warehouse.

What's the difference between import and export drayage?

Import drayage brings a loaded container from the terminal to your dock and returns the empty to the depot. Export drayage brings you an empty, then takes the loaded, sealed container to the terminal before the rail or vessel cut-off.

How fast can you pull a container?

Usually the same or next business day after it's available, depending on terminal appointments. For regular imports we plan pulls a week ahead around your receiving slots.

What is the difference between live unload and drop and pick?

On a live unload the driver waits while you empty the container and takes the empty in the same trip. On a drop and pick we leave the container at your site on a chassis and come back for the empty later. You pay chassis days instead of waiting time.

Do you handle overweight containers?

Yes. Heavy containers move on tri-axle chassis [confirm] to stay within Ontario axle limits. Tell us the cargo weight when you book.

What happens if my container is on a customs hold?

We keep an eye on the release and coordinate with your customs broker. The container moves the day CBSA releases it.

How much does container drayage cost in Toronto?

It depends on the terminal, delivery zone, container size and weight, plus fuel and any chassis or waiting time. Send us the details and we'll send an itemized quote.
